About The Reading Corner
Corner To Corner is passionate about stories. Each week it’s our privilege to help spark a love of reading in kids (grades K-8) at the McFerrin Park Rec Center. Early Literacy Development is a key factor in dropout prevention.
Studies have shown that trends in high school dropout rates indicate a high prison risk. Our reading program is one way that we hope to have an impact on the school to prison pipeline.
Kids show up at their neighborhood rec center and we meet them there with books, plenty of paper and pencils, some fun reading games, blow pops, and of course, smiles. We create a space where kids can practice their literacy skills in a fun environment while being encouraged by volunteers along the way.
