The CornerStone

Lately, it feels like a lot of people are talking about missing the “Old Nashville” when there wasn’t so much traffic and the skyline wasn’t filled with cranes.

I hate traffic too,

but, have you also noticed how many mom-and-pop shops are closing amidst all the construction?

I hate that even more.

Every couple of months, I see a restaurant with the windows boarded up, a daycare with its sign covered, or a car wash that’s closed. Usually, these small businesses were owned by our neighbors whose business dreams  are being replaced by apartments or parking lots.

I mean, don’t get me wrong – the people need places to live and park!

But if we are not active in our own communities, I worry that when our kids start driving around these neighborhoods, they won’t see any locally-owned shops.

If we’re not careful, we will look away from what makes Nashville feel unique: the community!

Because it’s the relationships between neighbors and small business owners, that can be felt when you walk into a shop that makes this city so special. I guess what I am saying is I want to preserve that sincere feeling of community.

But we need your help to make that happen!!

Which is why I’m so excited to announce the launch of TWO new ways for you to get involved with the work we are doing here in Nashville starting August 1, to nurture what makes our city OUR city!
